چکیده

In Ambisonics sound is encoded and stored in multichannel sound files and is decoded for playback. In the enand decoding process complicated functions are used. In this paper panning functions equivalent to the result of enand decoding are presented which can be used for real-time panning in an arbitrary high ambisonic order. In the function equivalent to the socalled in-phase decoding the order of ambisonic resolution is just a variable that can be any positive number not restricted to integers and that can be changed during playback. The limitations and advantages of the technique are mentioned, real time applications are described and the computational costs are estimated. The described procedure offers a new intuitive understanding of Ambisonics.

Ambisonics User Defined Opcodes for Csound

This text describes the implementation of Ambisonics as user defined opcodes (UDOs) for Csound. The presented package of UDOs includes a basic encoder and a decoder up to 8th order, an encoder with distance correction, an in-phase decoder, opcodes for the two-dimensional equivalent of Ambisonics for any order, opcodes for Ambisonics equivalent panning (AEP) and several utilities such as coordin...

Using Vbap-derived Panning Functions for 3d Ambisonics Decoding

In this contribution we will explain the derivation of panning functions from the vector base amplitude panning (VBAP) technology for 3-dimensional Ambisonics decoding. VBAP turned out to be a robust method for presenting virtual acoustic sources. Each virtual source to be played back using VBAP has to be described by a monophonic signal and a 3-dimensional position as parameter. In opposite to...

Comparison of Higher-Order Ambisonics, Vector- and Distance-Based Amplitude Panning using a hearing device beamformer

The main advantages and drawbacks of Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA) versus Vector-Based Amplitude Panning (VBAP) for 3D audio sound reproduction are well documented. However, few studies focused on the effect of 3D audio reproduction artifacts and errors on the behaviour of hearing devices. This study compares the effect of HOA, VBAP, and Distance-Based Amplitude Panning (DBAP) sound reproductio...

A Comparative Study of the Performance of Spatialization Techniques for a Distributed Audience in a Concert Hall Environment

The performance of various spatialization techniques is evaluated for a distributed audience using the nonideal speaker arrangements found in small concert halls. The methods under evaluation are Second Order Ambisonics, Vector Base Amplitude Panning, Delta Stereophony and Spat with B-format Ambisonics encoding. Each method is assessed in terms of its localization accuracy. The data is presente...

Evaluation of Distance Based Amplitude panning for spatial audio

Distance-Based Amplitude Panning (DBAP) has recently been proposed as a new technique for panning sound sources in two and three dimensional spaces spaces. In this paper, DBAP is compared with two established alternatives, Ambisonics and Vector-Based Amplitude Panning, both objectively in terms of speaker gains and their variation with source position, and subjectively using listening tests to ...
